Enjoying Florida, missing the rainforest
Thanks for visiting my new site! It's called "la casa, la selva" because I'll be focusing on home projects and travels, hopefully many of which will be to the rainforest (la selva), in various countries. Since 2004, my husband and I have been trying to get to know many different rainforests and the creatures that live there...though having our older son, now four, and our new baby has kept us from visiting some countries in recent years. Soon enough, the baby will be rainforest-ready with vaccines, so we'll plan some future travels.
Meanwhile, we're in Florida visiting family and getting some much-needed outdoor time after a harsh New England winter, right before I go back to work. It's been great so far, and the semi-tropical climate can almost make me feel like we're in the rainforest—especially since the vegetation is still lush before the summer. heat dries everything out.
Yesterday, I got some of my first real exercise since having the baby via C-section almost three months ago; it's been a long recovery. My husband went to his mom's house with both boys (!) to give me a break, and I walked a few miles in Myakka River State Park, then rented a bike when I reached the lake and pedaled a few more miles to and from a boardwalk to do some birdwatching. The bike was a pretty blue cruiser...but riding was not so comfortable after months of inactivity.
I didn't bring my telephoto lens since we already had so much to pack (a casualty of having two kids—anyone have any tips?) so couldn't capture the great birds I saw along the trail. Here are a few other quick photos...looking forward to the rest of the trip and to getting home and starting the One Room Challenge as a guest participant.
